What to do in Lisbon in each of the 4 seasons

Een bezoek aan Lissabon
Amidst the music of the street shows, enchanted views from the viewpoints and the aroma of roasted chestnuts, Lisbon is always ready to welcome us with an open heart. Let yourself be inspired by its yellow trams decorating the streets, by walks along the Tagus River and in the historic area, and also by the gastronomy rich in flavors, starting with the famous pastel de nata.
Discover how you can (re)visit this center of tradition and make the most of Lisbon's cultural agenda during your stay at the Hotel Marquês do Pombal.
Spring
In spring, the weather in Lisbon is around 15ºC and 24ºC. It is in this season, when the sun peeks out more regularly, that the city is painted with new colors, perfumes and flowers.
For a spring afternoon with the family, we invite you to immerse yourself in an unforgettable experience at Oceanário de Lisboa. Take the opportunity to take a guided tour of this giant aquarium, which promotes the conservation of marine biodiversity, and see the city from a new perspective from the cable car in Parque das Nações. A tour lemonade by the river and a bike ride are also programs to consider when touring this area of the city.
If you prefer to explore the other “end” of Lisbon, Belém is the scene of great walks, also overlooking the Tagus. Here you can take a break to visit the MAAT (Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology), which has dozens of contemporary art exhibitions ready to surprise you (discover all the spring exhibitions here). And how about sweetening the day with an ice cream at Santini or the famous pastel de Belém?
For those curious to know a 100% Lisbon tradition, the destination is Campo de Santa Clara, every Tuesday and Saturday, from 9 am to 6 pm. Here, the Feira da Ladra brings together sellers of the most different products (from vintage clothing, books, accessories, to furniture).
And because a spring weekend should also be enjoyed in contact with nature, there's nothing like coming to the city centre, on Avenida de Berna. Here, you'll find the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian's garden, a retreat of peace hidden among the city music - also known as the place ideal for picnics with your partner, family, friends... or with the ducks! After a light meal in the open air, venture into the late afternoon among the 1,500 species of flora in the Botanical Garden of Lisbon, in Príncipe Real.
Summer
The weather in Lisbon in summer varies, on average, between 18ºC and 28ºC - the ideal temperature to set off on the adventure of the Blue Flag beaches on the Lisbon coast. Starting with the Linha beaches, from Carcavelos to Guincho, there are many options where to lay out your towel and taste the classic Berlin ball. Further south, after a short train ride under the 25 de Abril Bridge, it's time to discover the beaches of Costa da Caparica, much appreciated by families and surfers , and where in bars / restaurants you can always find different cuttlefish dishes.
Back in the city, take the well-known tram 28 to the traditional neighborhoods of Graça and Alfama, on a route that starts at < b>Martim Moniz and ends in Campo de Ourique. And speaking of the city's neighborhoods, did you know that in the summer they gain a special charm? During the Santos Populares season it is impossible to resist the roasted sardines and the typical arraiais de Santo António.
With so much to visit in Lisbon, we cannot forget the 7 hills and the beautiful viewpoints, authentic postcards of the city. These are a must stop, especially if you are looking for a romantic sunset. At night, you can walk through the streets and alleys of Alfama, and let yourself be carried away by a evening of fado “à la distaste”, followed by a cocktail at Cais do Sodré.
Autumn
In the autumn season, the weather in Lisbon varies between 11ºC and 25ºC, while the leaves fall and the orange tones begin to invade the city. At this time of year, rain or shine, nothing warms the heart like the famous roasted chestnuts, warm as tradition dictates. And because the weather here calls for hot drinks, we suggest accompanying your hot chocolate with the city's most traditional sweet: the pastel de nata. Take the opportunity to discover some of the most historic pastry shops until you find your favorite (hard choice!).
And if the days start to get cold and the outdoor programs go into pause mode, there are always places you can explore at this time of year. Take the opportunity to discover urban art on the Lisbon metro. Encarnação, Bela Vista, Saldanha, Jardim Zoológico or Alto dos Moinhos are just a few examples of stations where you can always find an exhibition. If you're a true street art lover, don't miss Marvila, a neighborhood full of color and talent on every corner. While you're here, take the opportunity to visit one of the most important museums in Portugal, the Museu Nacional do Azulejo.
Winter
There is something that brings a special charm to winter: the Christmas lights in Lisbon. From Avenida da Liberdade to Rossio, many are the destinations painted by Christmas magic.
But with days between 4ºC and 15ºC, there is no better program than indoor activities to enjoy the afternoons. From ski academies, escape rooms, indoor climbing/bouldering spaces, and trampoline, to minigolf lounges, the dilemma is in choosing which of these activities to do first.
Now that you know how to enjoy each season in the heart of the capital, we invite you to wake up with the best panoramic view of the city. Where? At the Hotel Marquês de Pombal, your hotel in the center of Lisbon.
We hope to welcome you soon!
