Visit Lisbon
The Portuguese coast has more than 300 beaches with the Blue Flag of Europe and more than 200 considered Accessible Beach, presenting itself as white sand and thin framing the Atlantic.

By the river or by the sea, today we present five beaches in Lisbon and surroundings, where tranquility and well-being live. Away from the hustle and bustle, close to nature, this summer has everything you need to relax on the sand, float in calm waters or take part in water sports. Come with us and let yourself be surprised!

Beaches of Azenhas do Mar, Sintra

With its white houses perched on the top of the hill overlooking the Atlantic, the village of Azenhas do Mar is one of the most beautiful picture postcards of Sintra. Ideal for a romantic weekend or to recharge your batteries on a business trip to Lisbon, this “secret” refuge breathes inspiration and tranquility. Around here, good seafood is guaranteed and walks to the taste of the sea air are invigorating. Take the opportunity to challenge your photography skills from the viewpoint and go down to the sand, venturing for a refreshing dip in the oceanic pool that merges with the sea.

Praia da Ursa, Sintra

If it's not the most “secret” beach, it certainly is one of the wildest. Here “happiness is in the way” (and in the destination!). Sought by those who enjoy a good walk, the access trails to this beach offer magnificent coastal landscapes, where nature remains intact. Upon arrival, the more adventurous will find two frequent inhabitants: the rocks nicknamed Pedra da Ursa and Gigante, which, imposing, resist the force of a sea of deep blue. On rainy days, a small waterfall is formed on the beach, caused by the waters of Ribeira da Ursa. An unmissable place, next to the westernmost point of Europe, Cabo da Roca.

Praia da Rainha, Cascais

With calm waters, this small beach in the center of the village owes its name to Queen D. Amélia, who bathed there during her royal stays in Cascais. Discreet and picturesque, Praia da Rainha is the promise of relaxing moments amid a poetic and inspiring scenery, inviting you to dive in on summer mornings. To visit on an upcoming trip to the historic center of Cascais and enjoy pleasant family activities. Close to the beach, you will also find bars, restaurants and shops.

Praia da Foz, Sesimbra

Wild and almost deserted, Praia da Foz is at the gates of the Serra da Arrábida Natural Park. If you are looking for a peaceful oasis, away from the hustle and bustle, but close to nature, you have come to the right place. With a natural beauty like few others and sheltered from the wind, this beach rich in iodine invites you to a picnic followed by a siesta. Remember to bring a hat and sunscreen. Entering the water is only for the bravest, as the sea can be a bit choppy.

Praia dos Coelhos, Arrábida

A paradise in the Arrábida mountains! The Mediterranean vegetation and clear waters make Praia dos Coelhos a true haven of beauty and simplicity. Access may be somewhat difficult, but this idyllic shell-shaped bay is one of the most beautiful and peaceful beaches in Arrábida. Take your diving goggles and make an appointment with the fish and marine flora, feeling one with nature. Located between Galapinhos and Monte Branco, you can get here by boat or venture along the trails in the middle of the mountains. One thing is for sure: whatever the path, the destination is so worth it!
